Details from an insider on the suspected poisoning of John Kumah reveal the method and timing of the incident.
A broadcaster from Wontumi Radio/TV, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, has revealed details about an incident believed to be food poisoning that allegedly led to the death of the Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah. He shared that he was present with Chairman Wontumi and John Kumah when they supposedly consumed the poisoned food. Oheneba mentioned that the actual target was Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but unfortunately, Kumah also became a victim and suffered the most from this incident.
Oheneba provided these details on Wontumi Radio, explaining that the suspected poisoning occurred through guinea fowl meat and tuo zaafi eaten by the two men in Tamale. He noted that Chairman Wontumi and John Kumah were in the north supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign when the incident took place. Correcting a previous report by Captain Smart, Oheneba clarified that the event did not happen in Kumasi but in Tamale on October 22. He recounted how he, alongside Chairman Wontumi, John Kumah, and another colleague, Kwaku Marfo, had been part of the campaign and their plans got disrupted, leading them to stay in Tamale for the night.
Oheneba also detailed how he took extra steps to ensure Chairman Wontumi’s safety by swapping their hotel rooms and meal arrangements. Unfortunately, the poisoning happened after someone delivered guinea fowl meat to Chairman Wontumi and John Kumah at their hotel. Oheneba discovered the severity of the situation the next morning when he found Chairman Wontumi in a bad state after missing several calls from him.
The tragic outcome of these events was the death of John Kumah, announced on March 7, 2024. He passed away at the Suhum Government Hospital, as confirmed by his special aide.
